What is SSL? |
SSL creates a secure connection between a client and a server, over which any amount of data can be sent securely, SSL is designed to transmit individual messages securely. When you enable SSL mode, you can rest assured that any data you transmit between the computer you are working on and the server you are connected to is encrypted and secure, thus making it virtually impossible for anyone to intercept that data your are transmitting. Most SSL based Web Messaging systems require the use of a Digital Certificate, or sometimes referred to as a Digital ID.

What is a Digital Certificate? |
A digital certificate allows you to enable secure communications with Birchmore Communications through the use of Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) technology -- the standard for secure communications on the Web.
Why use a Digital Certificate? |
In the physical world, you protect your written correspondence by putting it in an envelope before posting. In the online world, sending an e-mail message is like sending a postcard: it is easy to intercept and read as it travels across the Internet. Instead of risking disclosure of your private e-mails, safeguard them with a Digital ID.
How does all of this work?s |
When a user enters a web site with the secure protocol in place (https:// instead of http://), the web server will match your domain name with that of the digital certificate that is installed on your WebServer. If the two domain names match up, then the browser launches in secure mode and you are able to collect data from the server, in a secure manner.
How much does a Digital Certificate cost? |
Verisign offers a FREE 60 day test drive of their Class 1 Digital ID. You can also elect to purchase it immediately online for $14.95 per year directly through Verisign.

How does Birchmore Communications keep my email Virus free? |
Birchmore Communications Group has implemented a start of the art virus detection system on all of our mission critical servers.
Once an email comes into our network for delivery to a user, it must undergo a complex series of tests and scans before it is actually passed on to the user. If the email message passes all tests and scans it will be routed to the user it has been addressed to. This entire process takes just milliseconds so you will never notice a delay in receiving your email.
On the same note, once a email is queued for outbound delivery to the Internet from a user on our network, the same tests and scans take place to ensure your not accidentally sending out a virus to a possible client, co-worker or even friend. Again, the entire process takes just milliseconds so you will never experience any type of delay in sending your mail.

What is someone sends me a Virus? Will you contact me letting me know someone is trying to email me? |
Once a inbound virus is detected, the entire email is placed on a quarantine server apart from our mission critical servers. You will receive a message from our system letting you know the subject of the email, the sender of the email, and even the virus name and file that was infected.
So not only is your computer protected but you will be able to use that information to contact the sender and alert them before possible damage happens elsewhere!
What if I send a message that has a Virus? Will I know that there is a problem? |
Yes, if our servers detect an outgoing virus it will also be placed on a quarantine server apart from our mission critical servers. You will receive a message from our system letting you know all the details of the virus that was attempting to be sent. That will enable you to take the appropriate steps in getting rid of the virus on your computer before any other computers are possibly infected. As a safeguard, the intended recipient will also get a brief message letting them know the details of the message that was intended for them.
